We asked for quotes and advice from a variety of contractors and were immediately impressed by Mackenzie Hughes's attention to detail, expert knowledge and understanding of the scale of the project. They provided us with a detailed quote and schedule for the works, which began in September 2008.
A dedicated team of joiners, plumbers, electricians, stonemasons, roofers, painters and decorators worked for the next six months to completely transform the house into a beautiful, light-filled, comfortable and well-appointed home. I had regular site meetings with Rory and Kate from Mackenzie Hughes and also with the different contractors, and I was particularly pleased with how they all helped us to make the right decisions about, for example, the layout and design of the kitchen and bathrooms; fixtures and fittings such as door furniture, lighting, fireplaces, shelving and storage units; colours for the rooms and hallways and so on.
There was so much to do in the house and it would have been very easy for us to get things like this wrong, but we always felt confident in Mackenzie Hughes's judgement and trusted their advice and input. We really appreciated the time and energy that they devoted to this, and feel that the value of it can't be overstated.
We look round our home now as we enjoy living in it and are delighted with every aspect of it. The quality of the workmanship is excellent and the choices that we made are clearly the right ones. Rory Forteath and his team have been very professional and have provided us with a first class service. We are currently in week 10 of a 12 week project. Any problems that have arisen have been dealt with quickly (our windows were rotten and instead of being repaired need to be replaced) and we (and our architect) have been kept up to date at each stage.
